Building on our original PowerFecal technology, the QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit utilizes optimized chemistry and a novel bead tube for more efficient lysis of bacteria and fungi. Our Inhibitor Removal Technology® (IRT) has been streamlined to provide effective elimination of challenging inhibitors found in stool and gut samples faster than ever. Total DNA eluted using the QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit shows higher alpha diversity through observed operational taxonomic units (OTUs) in downstream testing.
The new QIAamp PowerFecal Pro Kit uses improved technologies to yield more DNA from stool and gut samples compared with alternative methods (See: ‘Higher yields of DNA with the QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit’).
The QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit also improves DNA yield and quality compared to its already high-yield predecessor, the QIAamp PowerFecal DNA Kit, when running stool and fungal samples (See: ‘The new QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit enables the isolation of larger amounts of high quality DNA.’).
With a streamlined IRT process, the new QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit efficiently removes inhibitors, providing higher yield and decreasing sample processing time. Comparing the QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit to other commercially available kits, the QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit was the only kit to provide an A260/A280 ratio near 1.8, indicating the absence of inhibitors with the least amount of observed variability. More bacterial diversity can be identified in stool samples using the QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit compared with other commercially available kits, including our own QIAamp PowerFecal Kit (See: ‘Greater total number of bacterial OTUs isolated with the new QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit.’).
The QIAamp PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit processes samples using mechanical and chemical methods. Samples are added to a bead beating tube, all cells are rapid and thoroughly lysed. Patented Inhibitor Removal Technology is then used to remove impurities. Total genomic DNA is then captured on a silica spin-column membrane. The membrane is then washed and DNA eluted, resulting in DNA that’s ready for NGS downstream applications.
